We all know the impact and importance of great music on a presentation. Well, this season, I was so fortunate enough to get to work with a collection of amazing artists that brought such a huge impact to MA S/S ‘12 show. 

First off, The Real Steven can kill any set. He was responsible for the pre- and post-show mix, dropping such synth-saturated selections as the Tune Yards. It was definitely the salutation and closing the show needed. He is masterful at reading a crowd and sort of responding in a way that is relevant and yet fun. 

Secondly, if you didn’t know, the runway music itself was not a recording. It was a live set on a rhodes piano by none other than Julie Williams. She is (for the lack of a better more descriptive term) simply amazing. Her voice is soulful and classic yet she delivers it in a way that is all her own. She did unique, emotional, and inspiring covers of Pixies, Madonna, and Nirvana. It brought tears to my eyes, and that never happens. 

Thirdly, I have to say that these guys have become my new favorite local band…Baby Bee. These two brothers not only sported some of the new line opening the show, but they also provided the track for the final carousel and played at the after party. They bring a cool factor and youthful, up-tempo music style that just puts you in such a good mood. I am so thankful to had the chance to work with these guys. Anyone at the after party can attest, they make you want to have a good time and are great mediums for such. 

Lastly, DJ Moose def brought it down at the after party. He has great taste in putting together amazing playlists that lend themselves to healthy mix of new and old.  He will make you feel cool and relevant even if you don’t know what’s going on in music. He also did double duty by modeling. Such a good guy. 

Anyway, this season proved to bring a lot of inspiration my way via music. It has also challenged me to figure out pairings for the future that will continue to force me to grow and raise the expectations for things to come. I hope you take a moment and check those guys out.  There is definitely some amazingly talented people in this city, and we should all do our part to support them.
